Armando A. Piña, PhD

Piña is currently an associate professor with tenure at Arizona State University’s department of psychology, where he also serves as training faculty to clinical, developmental, and applied prevention science graduate students. Piña completed his BS, MS, and PhD in psychology from Florida International University, Miami’s Public University. Piña has extensive experience developing and testing theory-driven evidence-based assessment, treatment, and preventive interventions for Latine youth and families. Specifically, he has directed multiple efforts that focus on ethnic minority youth and families residing in the southeast and southwest United States. He has in-depth expertise for working in community settings, including in K–12 schools. Piña’s work is funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, private donors, and industry or “entrepreneurship angels.” He has several publications in top-tier and internationally recognized academic journals, book chapters on evidenced based interventions and assessment for ethnic minority families, and is coauthoring a Cambridge handbook book on parenting Latine youth.
