Disability Mentoring Program (DMP)

About DMP
The field of psychology has long struggled with the underrepresentation of individuals with disabilities in its graduate programs and professional ranks. Many who enter the field face unique challenges and frustrations, leading to higher dropout rates compared to their peers. Mentorship has proven to be an effective strategy in supporting the success and retention of underrepresented groups in graduate school and beyond.
APA's Disability Mentoring Program has been at the forefront of supporting and highlighting the contributions of individuals with disabilities to psychology for over two decades. By connecting mentees with experienced mentors, the program aims to provide guidance, support, and a sense of belonging that can make all the difference in navigating the challenges of academia and professional life. The program also provides exclusive offerings for mentors and mentees, including disability-related webinars, networking events, and collaboration opportunities.
The Disability Mentoring Program is committed to creating meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships between mentors and mentees, with the goal of enhancing representation and highlighting the valuable contributions of individuals with disabilities in the field of psychology.
