Elijah Murphy

Murphy is a 5th-year predoctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Houston. Murphy is originally from Washington, D.C/Prince George's County, Maryland, and received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology at American University in Washington, D.C., where he was also a division 1 athlete. Murphy has earned two master's degrees in psychology and clinical psychology from American University in 2021 and the University of Houston in 2024. He is also a Licensed Psychological Associate in Texas. Murphy is passionate about combatting systemic inequities through mental health promotion, research, clinical practice, and advocacy. He is dedicated to providing culturally informed care to improve mental health outcomes and collaboratively working towards healing with everyone he works with. Murphy prides himself on continuing to learn and grow as a mental health clinician dedicated to providing culturally informed care through a culturally humble lens. Murphy is also a dedicated psychological researcher with over 10 peer-reviewed publications focusing on the mental health influences of positive resilience traits and experiences with racism among people of the global majority. He is drawn to psychology to continue to fight for racial justice through promoting mental health and wellness.
