Ememobong Sunju-Abbey
Sunju-Abbey is a third-year Clinical Psychology doctoral student at Northern Arizona University with a strong interest in advancing mental health and substance use prevention for underserved youth. She is a selected scholar in the Institute for Translational Research Education in Adolescent Drug Abuse (ITRE), an NIH/NIDA-funded program focused on translating research into real-world interventions for adolescent substance use and mental health. Her clinical interests include pediatric psychology, health psychology, and culturally responsive care. Her research focuses on stress and protective factors associated with psychological and behavioral outcomes, with a particular emphasis on African American male adolescents. Clinically, Emem has experience providing evidence-based psychotherapy and psychological assessment across youth residential, outpatient, and juvenile justice settings. Growing up between the United States and Nigeria, she brings a bicultural perspective that informs her commitment to equity, community engagement, and translating research into real-world practice. Her Christian faith guides her dedication to service and holistic well-being.
