H. Shellae Versey, PhD, MPH is an assistant professor of psychology at Fordham University, where she directs the Critical Health + Social Ecology Lab. She received a PhD (in psychology) and MPH (in epidemiology) from the University of Michigan and completed a T32 NIMH Training Fellowship at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. Shellae’s research focuses on place-based SDOH among Black women and minoritized older adults, examining the impact of global trends (e.g., climate change, gentrification, displacement) on neighborhood health, housing, local food systems, and food security.
Shellae is specifically interested in the role of structural intersectionality and how systems of poverty, racism, and gender shape everyday survival and ultimately health. Her research seeks to address at least one key question: How do structural inequalities jointly shape the health of groups defined by constellations of multiply-minoritized statuses (e.g., race, gender, class, disability, etc)?
