Hideko Sera, PsyD
Hideko Sera, PsyD, is Executive Director of Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (EIB) at Morehouse College, where she created the College’s first comprehensive belonging blueprint called, Itambi. As a bilingual and bicultural female psychology faculty and administrator of color, for 25 years, Sera’s higher education career has focused on education, training, and management of health disparities, mental health access/resources, and educational justice. An active federal advocacy trainer, Sera has provided resources and collaborated with offices of Senator Amy Klobuchar (MN), Congressman Pete Aguilar (CA), and Senators Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock (GA) on legislation impacting resource access for issues such as mental health, education, healthcare, criminal justice, and economic development. Sera co-created the MARCH (Morehouse Advocacy Reaching Capitol Hill) Ambassadors Program at Morehouse College – one of the only undergraduate federal advocacy training programs at HBCUs. Before joining Morehouse College, Sera was Associate Dean of the School of Education at the University of Redlands, a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) specializing in student success, creating sustainable systemic policies and supportive infrastructures, leading innovative global education, and creating support for students of color and first-generation students.
Sera has received numerous recognitions, including the 2021 American Psychological Association (APA) Presidential Citation Award and the Cynthia D. Belar Education Advocacy Distinguished Service Award, specifically for her work with marginalized communities. Sera was a selected member of the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) and a Fellow of the American Conference of Academic Deans. Sera currently serves on the advisory board of the New Leadership Academy Fellows Program at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), Training Advisory Committee of the APA Minority Fellowship Program, and the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology. She was elected to serve two terms on the APA Board of Educational Affairs (BEA). Sera was nationally elected to serve on the APA’s Board of Directors and began her term on 1/1/2024.
