Jane Garvin, PhD, ARNP, FNP-BC

Jane Garvin, PhD, ARNP, FNP-BC, researches chronic conditions with a focus on reducing obesity and related disorders, managing weight and associated symptoms, and preventing the transfer of obesity from one generation to the next. Formally trained as a nurse, a critical care nurse, a family nurse practitioner, and a nurse researcher, she is particularly interested in the effective treatment dosage of behavioral interventions and individualizing interventions to overcome environmental and genetic predispositions to obesity and related disorders.


Garvin was awarded fellowships with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, National Institute of Nursing Research, and NIDDK. Her findings are published in a number of peer-reviewed journals. She is currently teaching in the PhD program at Walden University College of Nursing. She has experience in curriculum and program design, development, implementation, and evaluation. She has a long record of membership and service to local, regional, and international nursing organizations.
