Jeanne Manese, PhD

Jeanne Manese, PhD, was the director of the UC Irvine Counseling Center from 2007–2018. In this role, she administratively managed over 40 multidisciplinary professional staff including licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers who provided mental health services for university students. Manese also served as a coprincipal investigator, attaining a three-year $6.9 million state funded mental health grant aimed at stigma reduction, suicide prevention and peer to peer support interventions. Other professional experiences include training director of an APA accredited internship program, practicing psychology internationally while sailing around the world with the Semester at Sea program, working in Veteran Administration Medical Center settings, and running a private practice. Currently she maintains a consultation practice which includes a programmatic advisory role with The Steve Fund, a nonprofit focused on the mental health of college students of color.


Manese has published numerous articles and chapters, and her latest publication, a coedited book, is Cases in Multicultural Clinical Supervision: Models, Lenses, and Applications (2019) by Cognella Academic Publishing. Manese has achieved the distinction of Fellow in the APA's Division 17 and 45, and recently received the APA Minority Fellowship Program James M. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award for Public Service. She is a fellow of the Asian American Psychological Association and has also been honored by the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies and the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers for her work in the area of multicultural training.


Manese’s passions include addressing disparities in mental health treatment for communities of color, providing career development and mentoring for students and early career professionals, and promoting social justice through consultation, training and advocacy.
