Jose L. Pena, MD, PhD

Jose L. Pena, MD, PhD received his advanced degrees in Uruguay, and then was a postdoctoral and senior research fellow at Caltech. He is currently professor at the department of neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research lab investigates how the brain represents sensory information, focusing on auditory processing and coding of sound location in the barn owl. His work is based on the neuroethological concept that specialized behaviors and brains can be informative about significant principles of brain function and supports the diversity of animal systems used in brain science. Pena is a current member of the board of directors of the ALBA network towards diversity and equity in Brain Sciences.
