Kelli F. Johnson, PhD

Kelli F. Johnson, PhD, is the dean of the newly formed College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at National Louis University, and is committed to building a graduate college that is aligned to the school’s mission of providing innovation, access, and equity in education while fostering a community of belonging for historically marginalized faculty, staff, and students. Johnson earned a PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Miami and completed her internship and postdoctoral residency at the University Counseling Center (UCC) at Florida State University (FSU). Postlicensure, she remained as part of the UCC staff at FSU until 2008 when she accepted the role of assistant training director and then training director at the University of Illinois-Chicago’s UCC.


Johnson transitioned to academia in 2011 as director of clinical training for the clinical psychology PsyD program at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Schaumburg, Illinois. Prior to her current position, she served as department chair for the clinical psychology PsyD program at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana. Johnson also maintains a small private clinical practice in Chicago. Beyond clinical and academic activity, Johnson has held multiple roles in the professional community, including a 3-year term in the presidential cycle of the Association of Chicagoland Externship and Practicum Training. Johnson also held membership on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology as chair of its Ethnic Racial Diversity Committee.


Johnson is an accredited site visitor for the International Association of Counseling Services, as well as APA, and is honored to serve as a mentor for the APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship Program. Johnson’s interests include multicultural competence in clinical practice, intersectionality, social responsiveness in psychology, professional identity development, and mentorship.
