Melissa Carmona

Melissa Carmona (She/Her) is a third-year doctoral student in the Counseling and Counselor Educator at UNC-Greensboro. Melissa is engaged in research efforts with disordered eating in relation to immigration status, cultural identities, weight bias, and food insecurity. As a Colombian American, her Latine roots have also helped her shape her career trajectory, and she also brings this perspective into her work with immigrants. Melissa co-founded The Latinx Health Collective, a website designed to create resources for providers and Latinx folks as they heal their relationship with food and their bodies. As a bilingual clinical mental health counselor, Melissa provides counseling services at her practice, Cafecito Counseling PLLC in NC, works in collaboration with immigration lawyers by completing mental health evaluations for immigration purposes, and is the current Graduate Student Representative on the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) executive board.
