Monique Jiménez-Herrera, PsyD, is the chairperson for the Department of Social Sciences at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College (MDC). She is also a licensed clinical psychologist, educator, consultant, and trainer. Jiménez-Herrera’s work focuses on understanding diversity, equity and inclusion through a social justice lens. Her professional experience in Academia includes consulting work about diversity and multicultural topics, program accreditation, and student learning assessment. As an educator she has taught Undergraduate and Graduate/Doctoral students in both English and Spanish languages.
Her work around diversity and inclusion has led to current appointments in various campus and community committees including chairing the MDC Wolfson Campus Diversity, Equity and Inclusion-Curriculum Sub Committee, and being a member of the MDC Wolfson Campus Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, The Children’s Trust Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, MDC Wolfson Campus Women’s History Month Committee, MDC Wolfson Campus Changemaking-IMPACT Committee, and previously as a member of the Puerto Rico Psychological Association Taskforce on Lesbians, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues (2007-10), and co-chair of the Adler University Women’s Issues Group (2015-18).
Her career also includes owning a private practice where she offered bilingual psychological services to children, adolescents, and their families. Jiménez-Herrera has been published in book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles and conducts professional presentations and trainings on multiple minority identities and its intersectionality with race, ethnicity, gender, and age, specifically- LGBTQ adolescent development, and identity formation.
In addition, she has been recognized by the National Council of School and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP, 2014) and their Women Issues Committee for her contribution to the pursuit and promotion of women’s leadership in professional psychology.
