Enedina García Vázquez, PhD

Enedina García Vázquez, PhD, graduated from The University of Iowa school psychology program and since then has been committed to the education of others. She started as an elementary school teacher, but it was the role she’s played in the field of school psychology that has brought her the most gratification. Vazquez created both the EdS and PhD programs at New Mexico State University (NMSU), serving for more than 10 years as the director of the EdS program and one year of the doctoral program while the department searched for a director. She is professor emeritus at NMSU and currently serves as co-coordinator of the PhD program at The University of Iowa.

Vázquez’s passions center on mentoring students and early career school psychologists (ECSPs), and she is launching the Transforming, Engaging, Achieving, Mentoring Program nationally, to support BIPOC students and ECSPs. Her passion for service to the profession can be seen in her many elected positions in APA. She is past-president of APA’s Division 16 (School Psychology) and Division 45 (The Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race). She served as chair of NASP’s Program Accreditation Board, a position she held for 9 years.

Vázquez currently represents Division 45 on APA’s Council of Representatives and is now secretary for Division 16. She also is chair of the Ethnic and Minorities Issues in Psychology Caucus and sits on the Council for the Recognition of Specialties and Subspecialties in Psychology. Vázquez’s current research focuses on financial resiliency with engineering undergraduate students of color.
