Oswaldo Moreno, PhD
Oswaldo Moreno, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology and the Director of La Esperanza Research at Virginia Commonwealth University. Moreno holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Clark University and completed a pre-doctoral residency at the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology at Boston University School of Medicine, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at Brown University School of Public Health.
Moreno focuses on addressing mental healthcare disparities in the U.S., particularly for low-income and racial/ethnic minority populations, especially Spanish-speaking, Latine, and immigrant communities. His research encompasses both applied and basic studies, emphasizing clinical health psychology, social determinants of health, and clinical science. His initiatives include mental health promotion with the aim for implementation and dissemination science around culturally-responsive mental health interventions and data-driven policy. Notably, he has focused on prevention strategies for Latine youth and families, as well as addressing substance use and mood disorders. Moreno is an MFP Alumni from the 2012-2014 cohort.
