Randi Streisand, PhD, CDCES

Randi Streisand, PhD, CDCES, is a diabetes behavioral scientist, clinical researcher, and endowed and tenured professor and chair of psychology and pediatrics at Children’s National Hospital and The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She also serves as chief of the Division of Psychology and Behavioral Health, and a senior investigator within the Center for Translational Research. Her scholarly work focuses on parent-child behavioral adjustment to chronic disease, behavioral interventions to prevent and control type 1 diabetes (T1D) and treatment complications, and promoting behavioral adherence to pediatric medical regimens.

Streisand’s research is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and investigates behavioral approaches to improving glycemic control among children, adolescents, and young adults with T1D. She has served as principal investigator or coinvestigator on multiple behavioral intervention trials in disease self-management among families of medically-vulnerable youth. As a clinical and translational scientist, she is committed to identifying ways to improve children’s health outcomes among those affected by T1D.

Streisand has had the opportunity to mentor numerous clinical research trainees over her career and welcomes the opportunity to devote more professional time and effort mentoring trainees from underrepresented backgrounds as they pursue critically important topics in pediatric diabetes research. Streisand will offer her expertise in behavioral science research in T1D, and networking opportunities across the field, and throughout academic medicine. She looks forward to expanding her mentoring reach and impact and having more dedicated and protected time to support incoming leaders in the field of pediatric diabetes research who reflect our diverse society.
