Shanavia Dansby

Dr. Dansby is a psychologist with over 19 years of experience across diverse settings, including corrections, hospitals, private practice, community mental health and schools. Her primary teaching interests include assessments, crisis intervention and forensic-based courses, reflecting her strong grounding in both clinical and public-sector systems. She is deeply committed to fostering a rich, nurturing learning environment that supports students in building a foundation for lifelong learning and long-term professional success. Dr. Dansby serves as the Program Chair for the Clinical Psychology Program at The Chicago School- Chicago campus. She has held multiple leadership roles, including Department Chair for the College of Arts and Sciences at Argosy University’s Chicago and Schaumburg campuses. She has also served as Director of Operations for a former vendor of Cook County Jail system and as Social Services Director at the Center for Community Academic Success Partnerships. In addition, she has extensive forensic experience from her work at the Center of Applied Psychology and Forensic Studies, where she conducted pre-employment screenings and fitness-forduty evaluations for local law enforcement, assisted with court-ordered criminal evaluations and coordinated programming. Dr. Dansby has contributed as a Subject Matter Expert Consultant in Forensic Psychology and Mental Health Crisis Intervention Training for Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC and has served as a project testing assessor for the Illinois Clemency Project for Battered Women. Her research background includes work on genderspecific programming for juvenile female offenders through an OJJDP-funded project and she previously served as a research assistant to Former Vice President Al Gore for the book, “Joined at the Heart.” Dr. Dansby earned her doctorate from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology–Schaumburg Campus, her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Fisk University, completed an APA-accredited internship at Pine Grove Behavioral Health and Addiction Services and an APPIC-approved forensic postdoctoral fellowship at Dixon Correctional Center. In 2025, Dr. Dansby became a graduate of the 16th cohort of the Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology. Dr. Dansby serves on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSPP) as Chair of the Women’s Issues Committee (WIC).
