Stephanie L. Fitzpatrick, PhD

Stephanie L. Fitzpatrick, PhD, is the Simons Distinguished Chair of Clinical Research and professor in the Institute of Health System Science within the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research as well as an associate professor in the Department of Medicine within the Zucker School of Medicine at Northwell Health. She also has an appointment as a senior affiliate investigator at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research. Fitzpatrick is a clinical health psychologist, behavioral medicine researcher, and implementation scientist with more than a decade of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating behavioral interventions for chronic disease prevention and management in clinical and community-based settings. She has been principal or coinvestigator on 13 federally and foundation funded grants and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles.


Fitzpatrick is the interim director and director of research, evaluation, and strategic implementation for the American Diabetes Association-recognized DECIDE Self-Management Program. She has conducted studies, including randomized clinical trials and natural experiments, to determine the effectiveness of behavioral interventions on weight management, blood pressure, and diabetes-related outcomes among racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse adult patient populations. In addition, she has conducted studies and program evaluations examining the integration of social care in health care settings, as well as the impact of health care and community-based organization partnerships on patient- and community-level outcomes.


Fitzpatrick’s current research is focused on implementing combined behavioral and social health interventions in clinical and community-based settings. She is associate editor for Diabetes Care, president of the Society for Health Psychology (APA Division 38), Society of Behavioral Medicine Fellow, and serves as a member of the Oregon Health Authority’s Metrics and Scoring Committee.
