Lanier is a developmental psychologist and a full-time faculty member in the Rory Meyers College of Nursing at New York University. She is also a visiting professor at the Center for AIDS Prevention at the University of California, San Francisco. Lanier earned her PhD and MS in developmental psychology from Howard University and completed postdoctoral training in HIV prevention and intervention research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the University of Pennsylvania. Lanier’s research has largely focused on improving health and well-being among Black and Latino adolescents and young adults, especially in the area on preventing HIV/sexually transmitted infections. Her current research focuses on understanding how geographic and social contexts influence health and behavior and designing developmentally-appropriate, culturally-tailored interventions to improve health outcomes among adolescents and young adults. She is particularly interested in examining how relationship and couple factors influence health behaviors and outcomes.
